The sumner tunnel will be closed seven days a week from july 5 to august 31. Sumner tunnel/route 1a south will be open the weekend of may 24.
Boston — The Sumner Tunnel Will Be Closed This Weekend As Part Massdots Sumner Tunnel Restoration Project, And Construction Is Expected To Be Extra Noisy.
This weekends work will focus primarily on ceiling demolition in the tunnel’s east boston side.
Planned Closure Of Sumner Tunnel This Summer Reduced To One Month.
The sumner tunnel will be closed seven days a week in the summer of 2024 from july 5, 2024, to august 5, 2024.
During That Time, Crews Will Replace The Ceiling Of The Tunnel, Update The Lighting And Communications Systems, And Install New Cameras And Radio Systems, Among Other Things.
